I am an elected school board member and am not up for election this year. Can I write a letter to the editor of the local paper and campaign in other ways in support of two candidates for open seats?

Yes, you can campaign for candidates who are running for election to the school board. You are acting as a private citizen, however, and must use personal resources and your own time for campaign activities.  You should also use only your name when signing letters, writing online posts, etc. since you do not represent the board in these activities. It may be awkward if they are not elected and you serve with people you actively campaigned against. You should weigh the pros and cons of your specific situation.
