The Oregon City School District, Oregon City, Oregon, School Board, is seeking a highly qualified Superintendent.  The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2022. 

McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the School Board in identifying and screening the candidates.

Enrollment: 8,058

Location: 15 miles south of Portland

The Qualifications

The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The Board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. 

  • Strong listening and communication skills, accessible and responsive
  • A visionary, visible leader who has experience successfully navigating an organization through difficult or polarizing times
  • Shows an interest in facilitating relationships with elected officials and shows the understanding and value of keeping them in their communications advocating for students at the city, state, and federal level
  • An individual who demonstrates maturity, and a disposition that will aid them in success. Keys to that include:
    • Experience with successful labor negotiations and personnel matters,
    • Someone who leans into communication and transparency, and strives to always improve,
    • Demonstrated abilities and a strong heart for DEI practices
    • Demonstrated ability to effect change using evidenced based data
    • Skilled in K-12 education at all levels
    • Demonstrated skill with community schools
    • Someone who shows engagement in their home community
    • Empowers their staff to be innovative and forward-thinking without being a micromanager
  • Experienced strategic thinker commitment to serving EACH student - focus on UDL, SEL, and equitable practices that enhance the ability of each student to reach their full potential.
  • A leader who will create and maintain systems of accountability


Search Timeline:

  • Closing date for applications: March 3, 2022 (11:30 p.m. central time)
  • School Board selects finalists to interview:March 14, 2022
  • Finalists Interviews with the School Board: March 28-April 1, 2022
  • Site visitations: April 4-8, 2022
  • Selection of new Superintendent: Mid-April 2022
  • Start date: July 1, 2022
