Notice of Open Administrative Position

Position: Superintendent/Principal

The Dayville School District Board of Directors is seeking a highly qualified candidate with visionary leadership skills and successful experience in education administration to serve as superintendent/principal. The successful candidate must have experience as an administrator, excellent communication skills, unquestionable integrity and be willing to be involved in the community.

The Dayville School District is home to approximately 60 students in grades PreK-12 and is served by 18 staff members consisting of six licensed staff; nine classified staff; two confidential staff; and one administrative staff. The elementary school and high school reside on the same campus, along with an early learning center/daycare. The close proximity provides a unique opportunity for collaboration and a unity between students and staff. The small class sizes provide students with a high level of support from staff. Dayville staff pride themselves not only on knowing their students, families and community members well, but also building strong relationships amongst all.

The Qualities and Qualifications of the position:

• Effective open line communication and earnest listening skills;
• Proven ability to make tough decisions when necessary and effectively communicate the reasons (transparency) along with experience in managing faculty and personnel;
• High degree of consistent integrity/honesty with strong core values and campus pride;
• Puts KIDS first; is committed to serving all kids PreK-12;
• Is personable/approachable while keeping an open mind; works well with others; consistent open door policy;
• Background in teaching and building administration preferably in small rural communities similar to Dayville;
• Understands Oregon school finance, demonstrates sound fiscal management and strong budgeting skills;
• An empowering leadership style that collaborates, builds consensus, and inspires while building a respectful work environment;
• Ability to build and sustain strong, effective family/community partnerships as well as staff relationships that positively impact student success;
• Presence of leadership throughout every aspect of the school.

Dayville is located at the west end of the beautiful John Day Valley in Eastern Oregon, close to the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument and Picture Gorge. The region is widely known as an outdoor paradise with ranching, big game hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, bird watching, photography, rock hounding and geological study readily available. The laid-back pace, friendly folks and big skies encourage visitors and residents to unplug, unwind, and take in the peace and serenity of Oregon’s natural beauty.

The board will offer a competitive compensation package to the successful candidate, the salary range is $73,500 - $89,000, housing is provided. The successful candidate must hold or qualify for an Oregon superintendent's license and provide proof of compliance with OAR 333-019-1030 (COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements for Teachers and School Staff).
