Notice of Open Administrative Position

Position: Interim Superintendent

The Woodburn School District Board of Directors is seeking a highly qualified candidate with visionary leadership skills and successful experience in education administration to serve as interim superintendent. The successful candidate must have experience as an administrator, excellent communication skills, unquestionable integrity and be willing to be involved in the community.

The Woodburn School District comprises about 5,600 students in four elementary, two middle and one high school. They also have four Small Academies and one alternative high school (grades 10-12). The district employs a staff of 366 licensed employees, 272 classified employees, eight confidential employees, 10 supervisors and 28 administrators. Woodburn has a general fund budget of $71.5 million.

Woodburn is a community rich in history, tradition and diversity. With a mix of world cultures, Woodburn celebrates its diversity as one of Oregon's fastest growing and innovative communities. Its location in the northern Willamette Valley along Interstate 5 offers quick and easy access to both the Portland and Salem metropolitan areas. Long known as a center of agriculture, Woodburn is also the window to the Willamette Valley, providing visitors a gateway to some of the area's most beautiful attractions, including the Oregon Garden, Champoeg and Silver Falls state parks.

The successful candidate will have the following personal and professional qualities:

• Demonstrated success in leadership roles with staff, community and professional peers;
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
• Understands the intricacies and skills of language acquisition, cultural competence and dual language programs;
• Scholarship, intelligence and excellent organizational abilities;
• Training, experience and success in personnel selection, evaluation and development;
• Knowledge of curriculum development, implementation and evaluation;
• Knowledge of business and support service systems which facilitate planning, control and accountability;
• Experience in administering collective bargaining agreements;
• Ability to motivate and support other administrators and significantly involve them in the decision-making process;
• Strong management skills and a desire and ability to motivate and innovate, taking advantage of the district’s strengths;
• Strong work ethic;
• Values transparency;
• Can receive and reflect on objective feedback;
• Proactively engaged and involved with staff and community;
• Listens to staff and community concerns with an open mind.

The board will offer a competitive compensation package to the successful candidate. The approximate salary range is $155,000 to $165,000, exact compensation to be determined by the board based on experience. The successful candidate must hold or qualify for an Oregon superintendent's license.
