Annual Salary: $119,376-$185,088 ($127,668-$197,964 if you are vested in Oregon PERS)

We are seeking an Assistant Superintendent of the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion to join our executive team at the Oregon Department of Education. 

The Oregon Department of Education’s mission is to foster equity and excellence for every learner through collaboration with educators, partners, and communities. In fulfilling its mission, ODE has a vision to ensure all students have access to and benefit from a world-class, well–rounded, and equitable education system. Each day ODE employees impact the provision of educational services to more than 580,000 K-12 school children.

The major activities of the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion are to ensure that ODE’s Equity Initiatives and Programs are implemented and provide guidance and assistance to Oregon school districts, Education Service District’s and also provide supports to ODE internally.   

What you will do!

As the leader of the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, you serve as a key member of our Executive Leadership Team.   

You are responsible for the organization, management, and success of the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Our office is an office of powerful and passionate individuals who are committed to restructuring and dismantling of systems and institutions that create the dichotomy of beneficiaries and the oppressed and marginalized. We work with various equity-focused and culture specific projects, enacted through legislation and implemented with partners across the agency. Our goal is to develop partnerships to provide support, technical assistance, and funding to districts, ESDs, and Community Based Organizations to improve the learning and experience of students and families from communities that are currently and historically harmed and marginalized by educational systems. 

 

You oversee, lead, and integrate various statutory equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives that make-up the core of the office, including the African American/Black Student Success Program, the Latino, Latina, Latinx, and Indigenous people of South and Central Americas and the Caribbean Student Success Program, the LGBTQ2SIA+ Student Success Program, the English Learner and Emerging Bilingual Programs, the Student Success Act Mental and Social-Emotional Health Programs and others.  You are expected to lead, model, and collaborate across the agency on social change centered on equity, diversity, and inclusion within the parameters of education policy (including state legislation) and practice.
