Notice of Open Administrative Position
Position: Superintendent
The Newberg School District Board of Directors is seeking an educational leader with an outstanding record of achievement to serve as Superintendent beginning July 1, 2019. The School Board anticipates offering an annual base salary in the range of $155,000 to $175,000 plus benefits for the position.
Newberg Public Schools serves approximately 5,000 students in an 85 square mile area in the Chehalem Valley that includes the cities of Newberg and Dundee, rural Yamhill County and parts of Washington and Clackamas Counties. The District operates 10 schools including six elementary schools, 2 middle schools, one comprehensive high school and one alternative high school. The District employs approximately 580 total staff with an operating budget for 2018-19 of $50.7M. In 2011 the community passed a general obligation bond which has been invested in curriculum, technology and classrooms. The District’s mission is: “In partnership with parents and our community, the Newberg School District will educate all students to achieve their full potential as knowledgeable, self-assured citizens ready for college and/or careers.”
Newberg is located 25 miles southwest of Portland, Oregon and is the home of George Fox University. Seven 4-year colleges and universities are within 45 minutes distance. The District serves communities characterized by a small-town atmosphere and rich natural beauty. Often considered the gateway to Oregon's wine country, both the cities of Newberg (pop.-23,000) and Dundee (pop.-3,200) are a short distance from the Oregon coast, Mt. Hood ski slopes and downtown Portland. Minimum Job Requirements
The Board requires the superintendent be a strong educational leader who has the following professional experience and training:
• A current Oregon administrative license or eligibility to obtain one;
• A master’s or doctorate degree in the field of education, preferably in educational administration;
• Successful teaching experience at the elementary or secondary school level;
• Service as a superintendent or administrative experience in the central administration of a school system is preferred.
In lieu of the experience and training requirements above, the Board may consider as a candidate for its superintendent’s position an individual who meets transitional administrator or exceptional administrator licensure requirements.
