Notice of Open Administrative Position

Position: Superintendent

The Creswell School District Board of Directors is seeking a highly qualified candidate with visionary leadership skills and successful experience in education administration to serve as superintendent. The successful candidate must have experience as an administrator, excellent communication skills, unquestionable integrity and be willing to be involved in the community.

Creswell is located in the southern Willamette Valley, 10 miles from Eugene, Oregon’s second largest city, and has a population of over 5,000. The school district serves Creswell and the rural area surrounding it, about 70 square miles. The Creswell School District has a general operating fund of approximately $14.5 million. They have 67 certified staff, 77 classified staff, 6 confidential staff and 6 administration staff. There is one K-5 elementary school, one 6-8 middle school and one 9-12 high school. The district has an average of 1,200 students and a positive culture within all the schools.

Known as one of the friendliest small towns in Oregon, Creswell has grown from a farming community into a small city with growing businesses and close ties to the metropolitan area. The city’s location on the rail line, Highway 99 and the Interstate 5 has influenced local jobs, which are primarily based on agriculture and timber processing. Opportunities for outdoor recreation abound, including golfing on PGA course, fishing, hunting, hiking, canoeing and camping.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:

• High degree of integrity/honesty;
• Background in teaching and building administration at multiple levels; preferably in small rural communities with diverse populations;
• Effective and transparent communication; good listening skills;
• Always puts children and families first; commitment to serving ALL students;
• Outstanding budget and finance skills; grant-management skills preferred;
• Ability to build and sustain strong, effective community partnerships that impact student success;
• Is personable/approachable;
• Proven ability to make tough decisions when necessary and effectively communicate the reasons (transparency);
• A creative leadership style that collaborates, builds consensus and, empowers innovation while building a respectful work environment;
• Values the district’s current best practices/programs;
• Visibility in our schools and community;
• Willingness to make a long-term commitment to our school district/community; residence within the school district is preferred.

The board will offer a competitive compensation package to the successful candidate, the approximate salary range is $115,000 to $130,000, exact compensation to be determined by the board based on experience. The successful candidate must hold or qualify for an Oregon superintendent's license.
