Notice of Open Administrative Position

Position: Interim Superintendent

The Brookings-Harbor School District Board of Directors is seeking a highly qualified candidate with visionary leadership skills and successful experience in education administration to serve as interim superintendent. The successful candidate must have experience as an administrator, excellent communication skills, unquestionable integrity and be willing to be involved in the community.

The Brookings-Harbor School District comprises about 1,550 students in 3 schools. There is one K-5 elementary school, one 6-8 middle school and one 9-12 high school. The district employs a staff of 207 employees: 105 classified employees, 96 certified employees, 10 confidential employees, and seven administrators. Brookings-Harbor has a general fund budget of approximately $18.9 million. The district fosters a “graduation culture,” which resulted in achieving its highest graduation rate of 76.98% in 2017. At Brookings-Harbor School District there is a focus on CTE and dual credit opportunities, staff professional development and trauma-informed practices.

Brookings is located on the beautiful Southern Oregon Coast six miles north of the California border on U.S. Highway 101. It is bounded by the Chetco River and Port of Brookings Harbor to the south and to the north, by Harris Beach State Park. The city boasts balmy ocean breezes, spectacular views, and a host of outdoor recreational activities inlcuding fishing, hiking, golfing, kayaking, biking, swimming, beachcombing, whale watching

The interim superintendent will have the following personal and professional qualities:

1. Successful experience in leadership roles with staff, community and professional peers;
2. Ability to communicate effectively on a consistent basis, both orally and in writing with board, staff and community in a timely manner; follow-through must also be effective, consistent and timely;
3. Scholarship, intelligence and excellent ability to plan and organize; uses data to drive decision-making;
4. Training, experience and success in personnel selection, evaluation and development;
5. Knowledge of curriculum development, implementation and evaluation;
6. Knowledge of business and support service systems which facilitate planning, control and accountability;
7. Experience in administering collective bargaining agreements;
8. Ability to motivate other administrators/staff and significantly involve them in the decision-making process;
9. Strong management skills; and the desire and ability to motivate and innovate, taking advantage of the district’s strengths;
10. Interact with community with an intent to listen to their needs while keeping everyone informed of key issues concerning the school district;
11. Leads with integrity while using a diverse and equitable lens;
12. Will actively engage in community and school activities;
13. Willingness to make hard decisions and the ability to appropriately communicate the rationale;
14. Proven ability to make change now!

The board will offer a competitive compensation package to the successful candidate. The approximate salary range is $120,000 to $140,000, exact compensation to be determined by the board based on experience. The successful candidate must hold or qualify for an Oregon superintendent's license.
