Notice of Open Administrative Position

Position: Superintendent/Principal

The Arlington School District Board of Directors is seeking a highly qualified candidate with visionary leadership skills and successful experience in education administration to serve as Superintendent/Principal. The successful candidate must have experience as an administrator, excellent communication skills, unquestionable integrity and be willing to be involved in the community.

The Arlington school district serves approximately 160 students in grades K – 12. District schools include one K - 8 grade school and one 9 - 12 high school. The district employs a staff of 14 licensed staff, 15 classified staff, two confidential staff and one administrative staff. The district has a general fund budget of approximately $6.8 million. Administration support for the Superintendent/Principal is provided by the Dean of Students and Instructional Coach.

Arlington is located in Gilliam County in Northcentral Oregon, about 50 miles east of The Dalles and 2 hours east of Portland. The small town, with a population of approximately 600 people, lies along the Columbia River and Interstate I-84. The community is geographically diverse with elevations ranging from near sea-level to over 4,000 feet at the base of the Blue Mountains. Area outdoor activities include boating, hunting, fishing and golf.

The Qualities and Qualifications of the position:

• Effective communication and listening skills.
• High degree of integrity/honesty with strong core values; culturally competent; respectful of all groups.
• Puts KIDS first; is committed to serving all kids.
• Is personable/approachable while keeping an open mind; good sense of humor.
• Highly visible in our community and schools.
• Understands Oregon school finance, demonstrates sound fiscal management and strong budgeting skills; well organized.
• Background in teaching and building administration, preferably in small rural areas similar to Arlington; instructional leader with strong academic credentials.
• Proven ability to make tough decisions when necessary and effectively communicate the reasons (transparency).
• Ability to build and sustain strong, effective family/community/business partnerships that positively impact student success.
• Works well with others; strong collaborator that inspires and empowers students, staff, parents and community members.
• Proven track record of proactively using innovation to implement a bold vision for education.

The board will offer a competitive compensation package to the successful candidate which includes $2,000 per month for medical benefits, the salary range is $95,000 - $115,000. The successful candidate must hold or qualify for an Oregon superintendent's license and provide proof of compliance with OAR 333-019-1030 (COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements for Teachers and School Staff).
