About the District

Located in Arlington, Oregon, District #3 has one elementary (K-5 and 6-8 in one building) and one high school (9-12) located on adjoining campuses. There are a total of 165 students served by a staff of 28 licensed and classified personnel.  The Arlington School District recently became a public charter school.   Boasting a student/teacher ratio of only 14:1, the District offers small class sizes giving students individual attention and provides each student a personal computing device.  College classes are available to all high school students in partnership with Columbia Gorge Community College and Eastern Oregon University.

About the Community

Arlington is a small town with a population of 600 people in Northcentral Oregon about 50 miles east of The Dalles and 2 hours east of Portland along the majestic Columbia River and Interstate I-84.  Arlington is a safe, friendly community perfect for those looking to slow down and savor the little things in life.  No traffic lights.  The laid-back pace, friendly folks and big skies encourage visitors and residents to unplug, unwind, and take in the peace and serenity of Oregon’s natural beauty.  With its ideal riverfront location, Arlington is a gateway to adventure both on the water and dry land including boating, hunting, fishing and golf.  Arlington is also home to nine wind farms including Shepard’s Flat which is the world’s largest.  The nearby wind farms produce nearly 1,300 mega-watts of power, the equivalent amount produced by a nuclear power reactor.

The area is geographically diverse boasting elevations near sea-level to over 4,000 feet at the base of the Blue Mountains.  The ecology includes the nation’s second longest free-flowing river (the wild and scenic John Day River), miles of rolling golden wheat fields and incredible natural beauty.
