An online subscription service providing quarterly newsletters with a brief discussion of current policy issues of concern to Oregon colleges, education service districts and school districts. Sample policies reflecting these issues and changes in state and federal law, if applicable, are included.
The sample policies are intended to provide a basis for drafting policy that meets local needs. The samples should always be considered as open to modification. Rarely does one policy statement reflect the needs and concerns of all. The newsletter and policy samples are not meant to replace the advice of legal counsel.
To make the best use of Policy Update, it is suggested that a discussion on the various issues be held. The sample policies should be used to determine areas for which policy should be developed or revised, to get ideas for what a policy should contain and as a starting point for editing, modifying and discussing the local board's policy position.
Policy Updateprovides subscribers with an electronic version of the sample policies in the following file formats: (in .zip or .sit (Mac)) that can be downloaded from the My OSBA link, to open in your word processing application: WordPerfect 16, Microsoft Word 97/2000/2002, Microsoft Word 2010 and Microsoft Word 4.0 (Mac).
A member district may also purchase a supplemental Charter School - Policy Update subscription for a public charter school in their district for $200 annually.
Policy Update Webinar
In addition to the value of a subscription to Policy Update, the Policy Services Department records live webinars to provide support, in addition to "question and answer" time on issues summarized in the Policy Update.
