Oregon Revenue Department to host public video and phone conferences on new tax
Tuesday, October 29, 2019
The Oregon Department of Revenue is gearing up to collect the tax passed as part of the 2019 Student Success Act. They want to hear from Oregonians, and you have a chance Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 30-31, to make your voice heard.
The department will be gathering input into the administrative rules for Oregon’s new corporate activity tax through video conferences and conference calls.
After receiving numerous requests from businesses and business groups for opportunities to provide tax rule input, the department undertook stakeholder sessions with business taxpayers and tax preparers across the state.
To reach constituents farther from Salem, the department will host a video conference for business taxpayers and tax preparers in eastern Oregon from 10:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday and for the Oregon coast from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The department will hold a conference call from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday for out-of-state businesses that have commercial activity in Oregon.
Issues addressed at previous meetings include:
Who must register.
When and how businesses register.
Who must file and who must pay the tax.
Annual returns based on calendar-year activity.
How commercial activity is defined.
Where sales are sourced.
What business models are covered by the term “agent.”
Exclusions for groceries, subcontractors, wholesalers and others.
What counts toward the 35% subtraction.
How estimated payments will be calculated.
When estimated payments are due.
