Portland Public Schools recognized for climate action

Portland Public Schools has earned national recognition for its climate crisis response program.
The American School Board Journal’s April edition will name PPS as one of three Magna silver award winners in the over 20,000 enrollment category. This year, the National School Boards Association magazine’s annual awards highlight innovative thinking to address a school district challenge.
The Portland School Board passed a 2022 policy committing the district to building energy-efficient and sustainable facilities. The policy also directs the district to “ensure staff and students learn about and engage in climate solutions, climate resiliency and climate justice practices.”
In all, the 2023 Magna awards honor three grand prize winners, nine silver winners and six honorable mentions.
