The Oregon Department of Education will be monitoring selected school districts’ use of federal emergency pandemic relief funds.
The federally required monitoring of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund uses will take place from April through June. ODE, recognizing the additional burden placed on districts, will pick up to 20 districts and notify them in March.
Districts will be chosen based on a risk assessment that includes percentage of unclaimed funds, percentage reimbursed, percentage devoted to capital projects, timely submission of annual data and recent audits.
“ODE wants to learn from districts regarding how ESSER investments are affecting student learning and well-being, particularly for students most impacted by the pandemic,” it said in an email announcing the monitoring.
