Tuesday, October 29, 2019
La Grande School District Superintendent George Mendoza is among the new members of the Early Learning Council.
The Legislature this year charged the 8-year-old council with helping to coordinate a system of early learning services. The Student Success Act is expected to generate roughly $200 million a year for early learning programs. The Legislature also expanded the council’s purpose to ensuring that families are healthy, stable and attached.
The Oregon Department of Education announced six new members Tuesday, including Southern Oregon Education Service District Southern Oregon Success Project Manager Peter Buckley. He served in the Oregon House from 2005 to 2017 and was co-chair of the Joint Ways and Means Committee.
The council includes representatives from K-12 education, health and human services, the early childhood workforce and Oregon tribes.
