New engagement toolkit includes Student Success Act application window
Thursday, October 17, 2019
The Oregon Department of Education released Thursday an updated engagement toolkit to help school districts meet Student Success Act requirements.
The act is expected to generate $475 million for Student Investment Account grants in July. Grant applications must document robust community engagement with schools’ staff, families and students, especially with historically underserved groups.
The submission window will be March 2-April 15, according to the updated toolkit. The new toolkit offers a consolidated 2019-20 calendar and more details about the law’s requirements and expectations.
The new toolkit also offers clearer guidance as school districts combine their work on continuous improvement plans, due Dec. 6, with their grant application preparation. Education leaders across Oregon are engaging in unprecedented outreach efforts, ranging from tried-and-true meetings and surveys to attending culturally specific meetings and employing new communication technologies.
To help education leaders, ODE created a continuous improvement process and planning page and released its first Student Investment Account Toolkit on Aug. 21. Users’ feedback guided the update.
