The Nov. 14-17 event in downtown Portland will be celebrating the historic passage of the Student Success Act with the theme “Ensuring the Promise of Oregon by Creating Lifelong Learners.” OSBA will be debuting a Promise of Oregon video showing the dedication and effort that went into passing the act.
The annual gathering offers school board members, administrators and education advocates from around the state a chance to network, share best practices and be inspired. Dozens of workshops will cover topics ranging from improving attendance to a school’s role in suicide prevention.
The event includes three preconference workshops that require separate registration. In addition to the administrative professionals workshop and the Council of School Attorneys workshop, OSBA will deliver a daylong session on trauma informed practices. The workshop will talk about the effects of childhood trauma and examine the board’s role in a whole-school, whole-community approach to helping students.
Conference and preconference attendees save $50 if they register by Oct. 4. Online registration is open until Nov. 1.
OSBA gives deep registration discounts for first-time board member attendees.
