Friday, June 22, 2018
School board members can explore a wealth of OSBA Leadership Institute courses at the July 20-22 Summer Board Conference in Bend.
The OSBA Leadership Institute organizes valuable training for school board members and offers recognition of the expertise that comes with additional study. The program ranges from bronze-level classes on basic responsibilities and policy to gold-level courses on topics such as effective board-superintendent partnerships.
Registration closes July 13. The conference, dubbed “Summer camp for school boards,” offers vital information for new and experienced school board members. Workshops will cover topics such as board best practices, ethics, legislative action, school finance and education issues.
Keynote speaker Phil Gore, the Texas Association of School Boards Leadership Team Services division director, will address “The School Board’s Role in Student Achievement.”
OSBA offers two preconference sessions: an administrative professionals workshop and a daylong discussion of the school board’s role in disrupting poverty. Krissy LaMont, Idaho School Boards Association Leadership Development and Member Services director, and William H. Parrett, director of the Center for School Improvement & Policy Studies at Boise State University, will speak.
