OSBA board fills two vacancies on Legislative Policy Committee

Thursday, January 11, 2018
Map of Legislative Policy Committee regions

The OSBA Board of Directors appointed two members to the Legislative Policy Committee during a Thursday-morning conference call.

The policy committee is made up of 19 members elected by regions and the voting members of the OSBA board. If no one is nominated for a regional election, the board can appoint someone.

Jennifer McClure Spurgeon, Athena-Weston SD, will fill Position 2 (Gorge). Michael Jirges, Gervais SD, will fill Position 12 (Marion).

“Our members understand the important work the Legislative Policy Committee does to shape OSBA priorities and advocate for a better Oregon education system,” said Jim Green, OSBA executive director.

OSBA is still looking for a volunteer to represent Position 14 (North Coast). A candidate must be serving on an OSBA-member school board. Under OSBA rules, if there are no candidates within the region, the board can appoint a candidate from a neighboring region. The Multnomah, Washington, Yamhill/Polk and Linn/Benton/Lincoln regions border the North Coast.

Interested candidates should contact Jane Leonhardt at jleonhardt@osba.org.

The new policy committee’s first meeting will be Jan. 20-21 in Salem.
