OSBA 2021 Virtual Summer Conferences
Friday, July 9, 2021: School Board Essentials Conference
This conference is intended for new board members and superintendents. Experienced board members, superintendents and charter school directors are also encouraged to participate and learn how to support new board members during their first six months.
Saturday, July 10, 2021: Empowering Youth Voices Conference
This adult- and student-led conference with REAP, a local multicultural youth leadership nonprofit organization, will prepare boards to expand their engagement efforts with students and the community. Attendees will learn how to start and maintain effective engagement meaningfully with the community as partners.
Friday, July 23, 2021: Board Leadership and Administrative Professionals Workshop
This partial-day event is intended for administrative professionals and those in board leadership roles such as the board chair, vice chair and superintendent. Discover how these roles intersect and best practices for supporting each other with processes such as archiving board agendas and minutes, and public meeting laws.
Saturday, July 24, 2021: Raising the Equity Question Conference
This conference is intended to help boards “raise the equity question.” The Rev. Bryant Marks will provide a refresher on implicit bias, provide guidance on how to start tough educational equity conversations around diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and focus on personal versus organizational equity issues and lenses.
The events listed above will be held virtually. There is no cancellation fee if you cancel your registration by 8:00am on the day of the event. However, if we do not receive your cancellation by 8:00am on the day of the event, you will be charged a no-show fee equal to the registration fee.
Registration is closed.
More information to be announced soon. Check back here for updates.
Charter schools- please read the following before registering for OSBA’s Summer Conferences:
As you may have heard, OSBA’s tax status changed as of July 1, 2018 (see FAQ linked below for details). Under the new designation, OSBA can no longer accept dues and/or service fees from charter schools because they are not recognized as political subdivisions of the state as defined under federal tax code. Therefore, beginning July 1, 2018, charter schools will no longer be able to be associate members or contract directly with OSBA for services.
To access OSBA services, which includes conferences and events, charter schools are now required to submit a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) acknowledging that their sponsoring district has a process in place that provides access to OSBA services. OSBA needs to have your fully executed MOU on file prior to the conference (see sample MOU linked below), or we will not be able to honor your registration. Please mail the completed MOU to the address below, attention Vicky Black, or email email@example.com.
