Keeping School Boards Informed, Engaged and Relevant

The pace of change in public education is rapid. Fall Regionals give you a leg up.

Public education in Oregon is in a continual state of change.  How can locally elected school board members stay on top?  OSBA invites you to attend the 2015 Fall Regional Meetings to discuss opportunities and challenges facing boards and districts across our state.

Fall regionals are a great opportunity to meet fellow board members in your region, exchange ideas and build support for local education initiatives. And we need your help as well. Feedback from board members and school leaders helps guide our advocacy work and allows us to better address the service needs of our constituents: YOU.  This is your opportunity to help shape the work of OSBA and impact the policies and programs we advocate for in Salem.

On the agenda…

2015 Legislative Session report

Over 100 bills were passed that affect school districts, education service districts and community colleges. OSBA staff will provide you with updates about the bills that impact funding, school facilities, testing and state reporting, bargaining and benefits and more. You’ll get the relevant information to make informed decisions for your district, staff and students. And we’ll give you a preview of what to expect in 2016.

The Promise of Oregon campaign update

Last year we gave you a sneak peek of OSBA’s public education support campaign, “The Promise of Oregon.” The campaign has been a resounding success and OSBA’s Board of Directors has decided to invest in the next phase. You’ll get a preview before the official unveiling at our November Annual Convention.

Meet your regional OSBA Board and LPC candidates

Candidates will have an opportunity to make presentations for one of the 13 positions open on the OSBA Board of Directors and 19 open Legislative Policy Committee positions.  *Nominations close Oct. 2. Voting will be open from Nov.16 to Dec.18.

Feedback: Revenue reform, school funding and board training

OSBA’s Board of Directors wants our locally elected board members to tell us what they think about reforming Oregon’s revenue system, the state of school funding and trainings for local board members. We want your feedback as OSBA continues to represent our membership on emerging public education issues.

Capital construction funding update

The Legislature made a historic investment in school facilities during the 2015 legislative session. OSBA helped lead the efforts to secure $175 million for seismic upgrades to K-12 and community college facilities, and $125 million to match local K-12 general obligation bonds. Find out the latest about the programs and upcoming opportunities to apply for funds.

Let your district superintendent, board secretary or community college president know you'd like to attend.  He/she will make your reservation.
