Registration

How do I register?

Register online or print out the convention registration form available on the website and fax or mail it to OSBA.

Does the registration fee cover meals?

No, meals are charged separately. You may use the registration form online to select the meals you want to purchase. Or, you can purchase meal tickets at convention by 4:00 p.m. the day before the meal. For refunds, please return meal tickets 48 hours before the meal.

I’m a new board member. Do I need to register?

Yes. If you joined your board on or after December 1, 2009, your registration fee is only $75. Check the box on the registration form to get this reduced rate. You will need to register and select meals.

I’m presenting a workshop at convention. Do I need to register?

Only if you want to attend convention and join us for meals. 

I’m interested in the Board Secretaries’ workshop on Thursday. What does it cost and how do I register?

This one-day workshop costs $125 and includes lunch. You may register using the online link found on the convention web page or using the convention registration form. If you are a convention registrant, you may register and attend this workshop at no additional cost.

I’m interested in the Council of School Attorneys workshop on Friday. What does it cost and how do I register?

This one-day workshop costs $125 plus the cost of lunch. You may register using the registration link or using the convention registration form. If you are a convention registrant, you may register and attend this workshop at no additional cost.

How will I know my registration has been received?

OSBA will confirm your registration via email or U.S. mail.

I need to cancel my registration. What do I do?

Call us at 800.578.OSBA or 503.588.2800 and let us know. Cancel on or before October 11, there is no fee. Cancel after October 11, and a $50 cancelation fee will be charged. No shows are billed the entire registration fee plus the cost of requested meals.


Meals

Can I submit special dietary requests? 

Please use the space marked on the registration form to describe your special needs or in the box provided when registering online.

Can I bring a guest to a meal? 

Yes, you may buy meal tickets for your guest using the registration form or at convention. For refunds, meal tickets must be returned 48 hours before the meal.

I’m interested in the ESD breakfast. How do I register?

Simply sign up for this breakfast when registering for convention or purchase your tickets onsite by 4:00 p.m. the day prior to the meal.

I’m interested in the Small Schools breakfast. How do I register?

Simply sign up for this breakfast when registering for convention or purchase your tickets onsite by 4:00 p.m. the day prior to the meal.


Hotel

What hotel should I use?

The convention will be at the Marriott Downtown Waterfront in Portland. The headquarter hotel and others will open convention reservations on September 6 and close them on October 19. The convention headquarter hotel rates are $119 for a single and $129 for a double or larger. There is a $14 daily valet parking fee at the headquarters hotel. There also are commercial parking lots and garages close by. Other hotel information is listed on our website.

At Convention

Thursday workshops

If you are registered for the Board Secretaries' workshop, pick up your registration materials at the Marriott Downtown Waterfront in the ballroom foyer between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 11.

Meal functions

Meal tickets are required for each meal function. Meal tickets must be purchased by 4:00 p.m. the day before the meal. For refunds, meal tickets must be returned 48 hours in advance of the meal.

Recommended dress

  • General sessions and workshops: Business or business casual attire
  • Banquet: Business casual to formal attire

Note: Meeting room temperatures may vary. Please bring a sweater or light jacket with you.

Tipping guidelines

Although tipping is not required, may we suggest - $1 to $2 for valet parking; $1 to $2 per bag/item for bellhop.

Parking

Parking for guests of Marriott Downtown Waterfront and who use valet parking is $14 per day. If you are not staying at the Marriott Downtown Waterfront, parking is available in one of the lots adjacent to the Marriott or on the street. Other nearby parking options:

If you are not staying at Marriott Downtown Waterfront and will be attending a preconvention workshop on Thursday, please park in one of the lots adjacent to the Marriott (see links above). Street parking is also available.

Safety reminders

Keep these general guidelines in mind as your safety is important to us:

  • Remember to remove your badge when going off property at night (it advertises that you are an out-of-towner).
  • Keep to well-lit thoroughfares and travel in groups when possible.
  • Carry only the money you will need for the day or evening.
  • Keep valuables in the hotel safe.
  • Do not lay your hotel key down on the counters or chairs next to you.
  • Do not open hotel doors without checking who is at your door first.
  • Do not leave your hotel room door unsecured at any time.
