OSBA mission

To improve student achievement through advocacy, leadership and services to Oregon public school boards.

OSBA strategic directions

Advocacy

Harness the collective influence of Oregon's pre-K-14 school boards to promote excellence in student achievement, community engagement and public support. Sustain the strength and vitality of local education boards as the foundation of our democracy.

Leadership

Provide and promote opportunities for pre-K-14 board members to gain world-class knowledge and collaborative skills that focus on improving student achievement.

Services

Create outstanding professional services that are affordable, accessible and relevant for Oregon's pre-K-14 boards and education partners. Provide and promote services to school districts, public charter schools, education service districts and community colleges.

The Association

Continually monitor and improve OSBA's structure, operations and services to meet the changing needs of members.

Board of Directors Goals for 2010-11

  • OSBA will work to increase the proportion of the General Fund and Lottery that goes to K-14 while advocating for funding stability and mandate relief.
  • OSBA will be a recognized leader and effective statewide advocate in a continuous effort to support public education in Oregon as measured by Oregon's Quality Education Model.
  • OSBA will promote a sense of urgency and equip local boards with the knowledge and skills needed to increase student achievement by every student.
  • OSBA will continue to build a financially viable organization that balances the needs of our membership with the association's fiscal health.
  • OSBA will advance support for and awareness of the need for equitable opportunities and outcomes with high expectations for all students.
  • The OSBA Board will model effective board governance based on current research.
